The decline of populations of many elasmobranchs (sharks and rays) has been widely documented many areas of the world.
By contrast, the plummeting decline of Atlantic Sawfishes - rivaled only by the Manta Ray as the largest Atlantic ray - serves as a wake-up call to biologists to increase their vigilance in examining the population health of these wide distribution but low population species.
